Jim,
I thought that might be your point, and you are so right. And you know, one
could say that being an apologist for the New World Order means never having
to comment on your past statements - if they are exposed as lies they simply
become inoperative. Check out Raimondo's response to the following letter
from a Serbian-British woman:
ANTIWAR, Saturday, July 21, 2001 LETTERS
"Saint Slobo" [That was the title of the article which Tara was responding]
[I] just [want] to join the general chorus of disgust at Justin Raimondo's
"Canonizing St. Slobo." He ... sings the praises of Kostunica and the DOS
(apart from Djindjic) whilst refusing to ever acknowledge that the West has
paid for OTPOR and paid for and chosen Kostunica, and that Antiwar.com itself
has carried articles from establishment newspapers writing about suitcases of
cash being carried over the border into Yugoslavia directly from
Washington....
...It is not rational to write in one paragraph about propaganda and
demonization and then to lambaste Christopher Black for pointing out that all
other mass graves have turned out to be fiction! Raimondo's attack on Black,
Clark etc. seems to be because they are Socialists or Communists. ...This ...
splits the antiwar movement, and that is unforgivable.
Please bring back George Szamuely ... who is always intellectually honest and
has never, when so much of importance is at stake and so many lives are at
risk and have already been sacrificed to the New World Order, wasted a word
to indulge in personal foibles and prejudices.
~ Tara McCormack, London, UK
Justin Raimondo replies:
If barely half a dozen letters is a "general chorus," then the entire antiwar
movement is indeed no bigger than the Slobodan Milosevic Fan Club - a truly
depressing prospect, and one that I will do all in my power to prevent. I
don't believe it, however, as I have a much higher opinion of the
intelligence and integrity of our regular readers. Is it really necessary to
point out that Vojislava Kostunica is not a twenty-something OTPOR activist
with a paint-gun, but a Serbian patriot who has opposed NATO, has a long
history of opposing Djindjic, and led the opposition to Milosevic's commies?
And I would submit, Tara, that before you accuse Kostunica of personally
accepting "suitcases of cash" from the CIA, you'd better get your facts
straight. If old Vojislav is laughing all the way to the bank, then why, pray
tell, is he still wearing a suit that looks like it was old ten years ago?
You have Kostunica confused with Rolexed, yuppified Djindjic.
[JARED: Three points here. First, just for the record, to have six letters
sent to any website about any article is a lot, especially when the columnist
in question tries to tear apart anyone who raises an objection to his ravings.
Second, you should know that just a few months ago Justie was calling OTPOR
the great nationalist hope hope for Yugoslavia...but now that a small
obstacle has appeared, namely that we prooved that the National Ednowment for
Democracy FUNDS OTPOR and has done so since at least as far back as July
1999, said organization has become an embarassment. Hence OTPOR is now
inoperative. In its place, Kostunica, who has done EVERYTHING Washington
asked, is Justie's operative nationalist, and it is as if OTPOR never held
favor.
Third, concerning Justie's answer to the proven charge that Kostunica's
CAMPAIGN received suitcases of cash (certainly more than $100 million) - I
mean, who cares if Kostunica took the money for his own personal use? - In
regard to Justie's defense of Kostunica on this suitcases of cash issue, let
me see. . If I run for office with the equivalent that Kostunica's campaign
got, i.e., somewhere around $40 BILLIOn in - let's say - Red Chinese money,
and I get accused of being a Fifth Columnist, I'll just say 'Shit, man, look
at my suit! I got a RUMPLED suit. For Crissake, look at my HAIR! I HAVE NO
HAIR. No WAY can I be a foreign agent!!" - Back to Justie:]
JUSTIE: McCormack's inability to make anything but the crudest distinctions
is underscored by her anger at my lambasting of Christopher Black "for
pointing out that all other mass graves have turned out to be fiction." But
that doesn't rule out the possibility that there just may be something to the
bodies now being dug up on Serbian soil. What is going to come out of those
holes they are digging in the ground? I don't know, but I'm not going to rule
anything out in advance based on some rose-colored glasses view of Slobodan
Milosevic.
[JARED: NOTE THAT JUSTIE is trying to at least somewhat justify the truly
crazy refirgerator truck stories. I just learned that the National Endowment
for Democracy (whose Yugoslav representative, Ms.Kandic, launched the
refrigerator truck lie two months ago) liked the truck-in-the-drink baloney
so much they had their Belgrade quislings "find" two more. With the second
drowned truck, the DOS-controlled newspapers fully described all the
details, truck bobbing in the water, the whole thing, but then someone with a
memory - curse such people! - pointed out that there was a drought during the
time in questrion and therefore the lake in question had dried up - so
henceforth THAT particular refrigerator truck became INOPERATIVE. --The mass
media does it the same as Justie. -- Jared]
JUSTIE: It is not a "personal foible" or even a "prejudice" that causes me to
view Milosevic as something less than a saint, but a certain knowledge of the
crimes of Communism, as well as a hard-headed realism when it comes to the
reality of war.
[JARED: This is wonderful stuff, sort of like a perfectly preserved antique:
unadulterated McCarthyism. Milosevic is not 'less than a saint' because of
some deed he has actually DONE he is 'less than a saint' because of his
beliefs. This makes the work of the judicial system so much easier! Justie's
second point about the 'hard-headed realities of war' is also a beaut. The
fact is, the Yugoslav Army has a doctrine of war which firecely opposes acts
of revenge against civilians. Indeed, the Army was trying to develop an
Albanian defence force against the KLA. This notion that all people fight
wars by engaging in racist atrocities may reflect what is in Rauimondo's ahrd
head, but not what is in the heads of the Yugoslav military. But then,
Justie is too much of an expert on Communism to study the military theory of
Socialist countries. - Jared.]
JUSTIN: Yes, the stories put out by the NATO-crats were indeed grossly
exaggerated: we are a looong way from the figures of one hundred thousand,
fifty thousand, and ten thousand dead Kosovars once routinely referred to by
the War Party. The Kosovo mass graves turned out to be a chimera: however, I
don't rule out, in principle, the possibility that a man like Milosevic was
entirely capable of killing hundreds, if not thousands, if he thought it
served his political ends.
[NOT A CHIMERA, Justie. A chimera is a delusion or hallucination or error.
The stories spread by NATO and the Western media were well-thought out LIES.
Lies are acts of deliberation - they are NOT chimeras. This is a typical
Raimondo sleight of hand - seeming to attack Washington,. he actually lets it
off the hook: war propaganda becomes an error. If they don't pay this guy,
he is getting cheated.
LIES Justie, LIES LIES LIES. As when Washington MADE UP the existence of
satelite pictures of Albanians being forced to move bodies from one aprt of
Kosovo to another - by the way, where are the satelite pictures of all those
bodies being loaded into refrigerator trucks and driven to various bodies of
water where the impoverished Yugoslav government sunk $$100,00,000 PLUS
dollar trucks (Mercedes no less) in lakes with no water? And also: after
making the poor Albanians dig up bodies and rebury them in other parts of
KOSOVO did these same people have to dig them up again and load them into the
trucks? I mean not only is this genocide, it is an unfair labor practice.
Not to mention that one news story reported people heard cries of help from
one of the d
trucks - were they buried (three times!) alive? Not to mention that the
first truck was (according to the original story) owend by a Kosovo Albanian
company engaged in "meat packing and transporation". EXCUSE ME? Did
somebody say "smuggling of slaves or desperate illegal immigrants"?
But all this is reasonable, says little Justie, on account of the "kind of
man" Milsoevic is. What kind of man is that, Justie? Somebody who writes
screenplays combining the three stooges and Nightmare on Elm Street?- Jared]
As for George Szamuely, we would be delighted to publish his column, but,
unfortunately, brilliant writers often have trouble understanding or
accepting the concept of the deadline, a capitalist tool of oppression that
keeps the literary masses in eternal thralldom. Hopefully he's reading this:
please come back, George. All is forgiven.
[What a liar. Szamuely was fired for the same reason that NONE of my
articles on Milosevic have been posted on antiwar's main page for months
2000: because they don;t want articles defending Milosevic. I think I'll
post Szamuely's letter, written when he was fired. - Jared]
