Germany's military is reducing the number of its soldiers stationed in Macedonia and transferring many of them to Kosovo, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry said on Sunday. The vast majority of the 400 Bundeswehr soldiers stationed on the Erebino mountain near Tetovo in Macedonia will be moved to a base camp near Prizren in Kosovo, he said in response to a report in the newsmagazine Focus . The report claims that half of the troops would be pulled out. The move is part of a long-term plan to streamline the efficiency of Germany's military troops and has nothing to do with the current situation in Macedonia, the spokesman added. But one German officer said over the weekend that security concerns played a role in the decision. At the same time, Paul Breuer, the defense spokesman for the Bavaria-based Christian Social Union, speaking to the newspaper Bild am Sonntag , called for a reduction in the soldiers' tour of duty from six to four months.
