Ljubljana, 10 September: A joint exercise of NATO and members of the Partnership for Peace (PfP) program kicked off near the Bulgarian town of Plovdiv on Monday, aimed at improving interoperability between aviation forces from 24 participating countries - NATO members and PfP countries. The eleven-day drill, named Cooperative Key 2001, has been joined by 22 members of the Slovene aviation troops, Slovene Defense Ministry said on Monday [10 September]. In addition to performing flights, Slovene officers will play an important role in the commandership of the exercise, while two Slovenia's helicopters of the type Bell 412 are also to be used in the drill, according to the Ministry. Cooperative Key 2001 is one of the exercises between the Alliance and the Partnership for Peace countries held in southern Europe and is also viewed as the Alliance's first official assessment of the military preparedness of countries - participants in the Partnership for Peace program.
