ISLAMABAD, Dec 13 (AFP) - A radical Pakistani Muslim party said
that the release Thursday of a video of Osama bin Laden
acknowledging involvement in the September 11 attacks on New York
and Washington was "part of the American media war against Muslim
leaders."
The video was released by the US Defence Department but a
spokesman for the Jamiat-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) party said the United
States should give proof of bin Laden's involvement in court.
"Americans are trying to justify their genocide of Afghans and
Muslims by resorting to such low quality tricks," said Riaz Durrani,
the JUI's information secretary.
"The Americans, if they have evidence, should prove his guilt
before a court of law and not TV channels and newspapers run by
Jews," he added.
The JUI supported the Taliban militia in Afghanistan throughout
the US military campaign launched after the September 11 attacks.
Durrani said the video "will only cause further doubts in the
minds of Muslims" about the US campaign.
In the video, al-Qaeda network chief bin Laden claims credit for
the September 11 attacks. US officials said it conclusively proves
that bin Laden masterminded the hijacked plane assaults which killed
3,300 people.
