Ananova : Milosevic's daughter goes on trial ======================= The daughter of Slobodan Milosevic has appeared in court charged with endangering the public by shooting a pistol in the air during her father's arrest in April. Marija Milosevic, 32, arrived at a district court in the Yugoslav capital Belgrade, flanked by lawyers. Two high ranking officials from her father's Socialist Party of Serbia, who were summoned as witnesses, were also present. She is also charged with illegal possession of a handgun and, if found guilty, faces up to three years in prison. Prosecutors say she fired her gun when government officials came to take her father to prison to face corruption charges. The arrest ended a dramatic 26 hour police siege at Milosevic's villa in Belgrade's affluent Dedinje district. Marija later said she was "distraught about her father being taken away" and that she had drunk a full bottle of cognac on an empty stomach before firing. Though she had a licence for the gun she used, she was also charged with carrying a second, unlicensed revolver. Marija is one of Milosevic's two children. He also has a son, Marko. During Milosevic's 13 year rule in Serbia, Yugoslavia's dominant republic, the children enriched themselves through their father's position. Marija owned a TV and radio station and a disco, while Marko was involved in sometimes controversial business deals. He fled the country after Milosevic's fall. The former president is now in The Hague, Netherlands, awaiting trial at the UN tribunal on charges of war crimes in Kosovo, Bosnia and Croatia.
