Spanish Medical Delegation in Iraq to Show

BAGHDAD, January 3 (Xinhuanet) -- A
Spanish medical delegation
arrived in the Iraqi capital on Thursday
for a visit aimed at
showing solidarity with the embargo-hit country,
the official Iraqi
News Agency (INA) reported.
The
delegation was headed by Carlos Faria, general director of
the Spanish
Campaign for Lifting the Embargo on Iraq, the INA said.
In
a statement to the INA, Faria said this was the fourth visit
organized
by the campaign he headed to Iraq to express Spanish
people's
solidarity with the Iraqi people, and call for lifting
the "cruel"
embargo on Iraq since 1990.
Faria also voiced rejection of
the aggressive policy toward Iraq
by the United States, the INA
said.
During the visit, Faria and his delegation would
visit some
hospitals "to see the negative effects of the embargo" and
meet
Iraqi officials, the INA said.
Spain has called
for lifting the embargo, imposed on Iraq by the
United Nations for its
1990 invasion of Kuwait, while urging Iraq
to implement relevant U.N.
Security Council resolutions.
