Nine Policemen, Four CPN(M) Guerrillas Killed From: "Stasi" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [Peoples War] Nepal: Nine Policemen, Four CPN(M) Guerrillas Killed Nine Policemen, Four Anti-Government Guerrillas Killed ====================================== Xinhuanet 2002-04-16 23:20:45 ����KATHMANDU, April 16 (Xinhuanet) -- At least 10 people including nine policemen were killed by the anti-government guerrillas, according to a press release issued by the Nepali Defence Ministryhere Tuesday evening. ����At least nine policemen and a civilian were killed on Monday night at Warpak police post in Gorkha district, in the midwest of the country, when a group of armed anti-government guerrillas attacked the police post, the press release said. ����Meanwhile, at least four anti-government guerrillas were gunneddown on Monday in Dang district, located in the west part of Nepal,when they exchanged fire with the government security forces, it added ����The government security forces also seized a large amount of weapons, ammunitions and explosive materials from the guerrillas during their cordon and search operations across the country. ����More than 800 guerrillas and over 200 security personnel have been killed since the government imposed the state of emergency onNovember 26 last year following the series of attacks by the guerrillas on the government security forces after they broke a four-month-long cease-fire talks with the government on November 23 last year. ����The Nepali government initiated peace talks with the guerrillasin August last year in order to find a peaceful solution to the six-year-long guerrillas insurgency that has claimed more than 3,000 lives, including policemen, guerrillas members and civilians, since it began in the Himalayan kingdom in 1996. ����However, the three rounds of talks held were inconclusive as the guerrillas demanded the establishment of a republican state, an interim government and a new constitution, which were rejected by the government.
