Call for Papers

Founded in 1990, the Alliance of Universities for Democracy (AUDEM) is a consortium of American and Central and East European universities united for the common purpose of supporting institutions of higher learning in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) in their transition from suppression in centrally-planned economies to their democratic roles in market-driven economies. Currently, AUDEM’s members number over 110 institutions of higher learning in CEE and the United States. (For more information about the Alliance and its Members, please go to www.aubg.bg/audem)

Thirteenth Annual Conference:

Higher Education in a Period of Social Change and Political Transformation

November 9 – 13, 2002, Timisoara, Romania

 

The Annual Conference is hosted by the Politehnica University of Timisoara. We will be meeting in Timisoara, Romania, a city that occupies a very special place in the history of the 1989 Revolution in Romania.  We think it would be valuable to have a general session on the topic “Timisoara and the Romanian Revolution of 1989”, and therefore invite our Romanian colleagues to submit proposals for presentations. This year, the overall theme is reflected in the following tracks:

Assessing Democracy and Social Life in Contemporary Societies

The Transformation of Universities in the 21st Century

Assuring Quality in Higher Education

Student Perspectives: Student Papers & Presentations

Open Track: Papers and Presentations Are Invited

The following are suggested topics and titles for panels, roundtables and workshops. They will be grouped by Track. Colleagues are also invited to propose additional topics. Colleagues proposing a paper or presentation should indicate which topic or which track the proposal will fit under.

CONTRIBUTED PAPERS

    We welcome discussions and contributions that relate to the general theme of the Conference, and in particular want to encourage young scholars and junior faculty to participate. Time allotted will be about 20 - 25 minutes for each paper plus a limited time for questions.The deadline for receipt of papers, including titles, authors' names, institutional affiliation and addresses, and an abstract of 100-200 words is October 1. Papers received after October 1 are not likely to be included in the program.These contributions should be sent to the Program Chair for this Conference, Dr. Julia M.
