If agreed upon, the force would be "very high profile," said the official, giving no further details ahead of the defence ministers' informal talks on September 24-25 in the Polish capital. "We may also get a briefing by the American defense secretary on some proposals which we believe the Americans may table on something called the 'Nato response force'. "It's an idea which is being worked up and we're expecting Mr. Rumsfeld to tell us about that at Warsaw and then the ministers can discuss it and decide whether if it's something which they want to go forward. The official added: "I'm talking about something which has not yet been tabled... so I can't really give any details." The idea of such a permanent multi-national force, which would be able to be rapidly deployed, has surfaced recently amid reflections on how to adapt Nato's role in particular to fight against terrorism, in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
