http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/cms.dll/articleshow?artid=23140062 The Times Of India September 24, 2002 Iraq factor reduces Blair's popularity: Poll LONDON(AFP): Opposition to war against Iraq has cut British Prime Minister Tony Blair's opinion poll lead to just 5 per cent, a British daily said on Tuesday. Rifts among Blair's senior ministers over whether to use military action to topple Iraqi President Saddam Hussein have dropped the government's popularity with voters below 40 per cent for the first time in two years, The Guardian said. Opposition to military action against Iraq is up six points in the last week to 46 per cent, the ICM poll said, showing the impact of Saddam's offer to admit weapons inspectors and debates over a new UN resolution, the daily said. But the poll also showed that 65 per cent of voters would be prepared to back a war against Iraq if the government dossier to be published on Tuesday shows evidence that Saddam has acquired new weapons of mass destruction. Only 13 per cent of those polled said that they believed Baghdad's "unconditional" offer to allow UN weapons inspectors back into Iraq. ICM conducted 1,000 telephone interviews with adults aged 18 or over between September 20 and 22. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
