Less than one in three UK voters support strike on
Iraq - poll

Less than one in three British voters support military
action against Iraq.

According to a Guardian/ICM weekly survey, support for
military action against Iraq has fallen to 32%.

A survey a week earlier, on September 22, found the
figure to be 37%.

The latest results of the regular tracker question on
attitudes to the possibility of war in Iraq show a
further rise to 27% in the number of "don't knows". On
September 22, the figure was 18%.

At the same time, opposition to military action has
dipped over the past three weeks from 46% in the third
weekend of September to 41% now.

Most of the movement has been between those who
disapprove of military action and the "don't knows".

According to The Guardian, an unnamed senior cabinet
minister warns that a quarter of Labour Party members
will resign if Britain goes to war alongside the US
without UN backing.

ICM interviewed a random sample of 1,000 adults by
telephone between October 4-6.

Interviews were conducted across the country and the
results have been weighted to the profile of all
adults.
