AFP. 1 March 2003. Thousands of Yemenis take to streets again in
anti-war protest.

SAN'A -- Hundreds of thousands of Yemenis took to the streets of San'a
Saturday for the second time in 24 hours to protest US threats of war
against Iraq, organizers said.

The demonstrators gathered to express their support for Iraq and demand
that the Arab summit, opening Saturday in the Egyptian Red Sea town of
Sharm el-Sheikh, denounce Washington's plans.<

The protest, organised by political parties and trade unions, was headed
by Abdul Karim Iriani, an advisor to President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who
is taking part in the Arab summit.

In a message to the summit read by Iriani, the protestors called on Arab
leaders to "consider the Arabs' rejection of an attack against Iraq and
stop it."

An estimated 10,000 people demonstrated in Sanaa Friday against a US-led
war on Iraq, burning effigies of US President George W. Bush and Israeli
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, as well as US and Israeli flags.
