He denied allegations that the USA is planning the deployment of other military units on Bulgarian territory. A base similar to Saraphovo is being established in neighbouring Romania. Currently, there are six refuelling planes type KC-10 and two Black Hawk attack helicopters are stationed at Saraphovo. The deployment of US military personnel at Saraphovo raised fears among the locals that the air base and Bourgas itself may become targets during a war with Iraq. The Bourgas municipal council announced it will request additional funds from the treasury for protection of the civil population, although Bulgarian and US experts deny there will be any real danger at all.
