Trend News Agency November 26, 2009 Georgian defense ministry opens training center N. Kirtzkhalia Georgia, Tbilisi: A training center was opened at the Georgian Defense Ministry within the framework of the NATO Professional Development Program (PDP). The training infrastructure was officially opened by Deputy Defense Minister Nikoloz Vashakidze and Program Officer David Johnson. The opening ceremony proceeded in the presence of ambassadors of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Latvia to Georgia, the ministry reported. The first event held in the center was a conference regarding the enhancement of media involvement and transparency on defence and military issues. The seminar was organized within the scope of the NATO PDP. Discussions during the conference were mainly oriented at public relations issues and media role and functions during crisis situations. The representatives of local public relations offices, together with those representing the partner states delivered reports on three key topics: 1. public relations service functions; 2. media transparency; 3. transparency during conflict and crisis situations. The conference was opened by NATO PDP Officer David Johnson and Chief of the Press Division, Public Relations Department of MoD of the Republic of Latvia Mr. Kaspars Odins. Representatives from both the Georgian and foreign press service offices; from military, civil and media institutions; journalists and experts also attended the event.
