Imagine your HD being connected to two IDE cables from 2 machines at 
once, then you'll understand

no idea, kvblade is said to be quicker. I've never had any problems with 
sync or reliability with vblade. the code is *very* simple
I've not used the others, just vblade on Linux / Plan 9

I don't see the point of RAIDing to the same disk, just means more CPU. 
I would say RAID the disks and serve one image via AoE.

I have RAIDed with vblade for experimentation, I also served that to 
Windows and TruCrypted it just to see how much you could push it.


My advice is for you to really think about what ATA over Ethernet means. 
ATA is a protocol.
