I have a partial implementation of a patch to aoe6-70 that would pass SMART commands to AoE targets when a process does the HDIO_DRIVE_CMD ioctl with ATA_CMD_SMART commands that don't overload the sector count and don't get or put more than a kilobyte of data. I can only work on it occasionally, but I am making progress, and there's one volunteer ready for beta testing already. When it's ready the patch will be posted on the "aoe Proving Grounds" blog. The volunteer has some Welland boxes that can pass the SMART commands to their attached PATA drive. Only folks with AoE targets like that will be interested in this patch. Some AoE targets aren't backed by a real ATA device---instead they're backed by an abstraction (like a RAID of disks) or a file in a filesystem. For those targets, passing through SMART isn't a good fit. -- Ed Cashin <ecas...@coraid.com> Find experimental aoe Linux driver patches at http://coraid.typepad.com/aoe_linux_proving_grounds/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ Aoetools-discuss mailing list Aoetools-discuss@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/aoetools-discuss
