Patrick Spence pointed out Jabber and I took a close look. I think it's
going to be perfect for what we want to set up. Not sure it's worth writing
a module for, but I'd like jabberd to be able to get info out of our
Postgres database, so an AOLserver module that talks to the jabber server
and allows jabberd to make requests might be in the future. Dossy suggested
XML-RPC, which is also being worked into jabber, for communicating between
AOLserver/Postgres and the jabber server.
thanks for the pointer though. I suppose I should post the responses.
