My guess is that the PIX firewall at AOL doesn't allow outbound on
6667/tcp.  From the AOL offices, 6667/tcp to any host gets a RST.

I highly doubt we could convince the network security folks to open that
port for outbound traffic through the firewall -- but, maybe we could.

It's just a pity that AOL IM and AIM don't Do The Right Thing with
regard to Group Chat.  In other words: if we use AIM, then even AOL
employees need to use AIM -- they can't join the chat from within the
AOL client, either.  But this is a far simpler problem to solve than
proxying IRC through the firewall.  :-)
