I've looked at Vlad's ns_gzip code and I'm not entirely happy with it
(needs to be cleaned up, etc.) -- what if we implement a ns_gzip API as
part of the core AOLserver.  Then, using that coupled with ns_return
should provide the functionality you're looking for all "within the
core".  Or, are you asking for something else?
