Tru64 Unix?  I assume this is on Alpha platform?  I assume
"MadrakeLinux" was a typo and you meant "Mandrake Linux" -- is that on
x86 or on Alpha?

I can totally believe that the build is broken on Tru64, but not on
Mandrake Linux -- it should build just fine there.

This is just really broken.  Are you using GNU make?  What does "make
-v" say?
