This fork was no success because even the people behind this attempt did not like that idea for the usual good reasons. If I remember correctly it was mainly an attempt of developers that totally rely on AOLserver, the OpenACS toolkit developers. The ArsDigita patches crucial for the toolkit did not make it (fast enough?) into the core, so the attempt was understandable. Even other attempts have been made that avoid the "fork", like including some of AOLservers virtues into Apache or TCL.
