I also vote for the three column, less scrolling the better (at least
for the mainpage). I also
prefer the search on top, maybe we can combine it with the nav bar?

Of course with your top headings. This is a modified copy of my previous
version so the links do not work and the new sections are not updated. 
BUt it's just to show the three column layout with the search box
included in the navbar?
