hello All, We have had a Redhat 7.3 box with Joshie's FP rpms installed and running great for a few years now. We haven't really attempted to do anything new to it as "it works." Well, I just was give a new server which I would like to move this over to (Dual CPU, gig of RAM, loads of Drive space, DLT backup Drive). Anyway, I would like to move my current web directory (about 15 gig) over to the new server. I am looking at putting Fedora on, but am not bound to that. I actually was looking at a full RHELServer 4 which cost us in education about 50 bucks.
If I were to install say Fedora on this system, what do I need to do to move the current Web from the old server to the new one? I want to minimize as much work as possible. Last time we had to rebuild the Web server the Webmaster and I spent 3 days recreating usernames and passwords. I don't want to do that again. I can't do that again! My thought, I use Mondo-Restore to archive our current Website. I was thinking of either using mondo or TAR to backup the entire server. Move over to the new server and restore the entire system on the new server. Then, run an upgrade to say Fedora on that machine. Would I be doing it better if I built the machine from scratch install and then moved over the Web directory and all the FP files needed? Any tips would be welcomed. I want this to run smooth so I don't have lots of extra work to do.
