Remember that an SMP box can boot without a SMP kernel. It just will 
only use one proc. What I would do...

Upgrade the existing box to Fedora Core 3 (or whatever you want). You'll 
have to deal with the apache issue then if apache 1.3 won't work... 
maybe it will. I don't think it'll keep working. So if you follow my 
fedora dox you'll have it running. Then move that image of that whole 
machine to the new hardware and you should boot just fine and be updated.
