<snip> > My QUESTION IS THIS.... FPSE on Apache/Unix makes heavy use of htaccess, htgroup and htpasswd files. These are all stored within each site's directories. When I "upgrade" or "replace" a server, I've got a tar of all the websites or I move the drive that the sites are on so everything is exactly the same. I've not had to reset all the usernames/passwords, but I have some ideas on how that could have happened (ie things not to do): Completely uninstalled FPSE extensions from the site before or after moving them. I uninstall extensions and re-install them from time to time to fix it's wagon, but I almost never do a 'full' uninstall. Backups excluded _vti_pvt/ directories or the password and group files contained within them. Maybe they "backed up" with wget? That would get all the linked content, and none of the FPSE stuff. It is best to do a full backup/restore. If your only options to copy a site (it's remote) are MS FP or wget, use FrontPage. > Can I move the Web directory and then say the frontpage folder? Then > when I do my upgrade on the NEW server all the information should be > there for FP to allow those users to jump right in like nothing has > happened? > I feel like I've already answered this question. Let me look... http://lists.joshie.com/pipermail/apache-fp/2005-March/002837.html "I would put the sites in the same directory path on the new server, install FPSE on the new server and then either copy all the <host:port>.cnf files over or just re-extend all of the sites. Re-extending the sites should fix up permission issues if your user and group id's are different." Thought so... I can tell you're getting nervous/panicky, but if you would ask about the bits you dont understand instead of asking the same question twice it would seem like you had at least considered the suggestions. Another idea is to have the sites running on both systems at the same time. Then you can see if they are working and jump back to the old one when you see a problem with the new one. Best of luck. It should all work out. -- Jacob _______________________________________________ Apache-FP mailing list Apache-FP@lists.joshie.com http://lists.joshie.com/mailman/listinfo/apache-fp Donations: http://www.amazon.com/paypage/PT5LZITM9L227
