Hi,
try to specify the config file with --cfg maybe your file have a syntax
error check with a clean ape.conf file.

It's a bare-bones box so I'll start over from a base-install in a bit..
Although, I'm still a bit confused as to how this could happen. Can
one of the APE devs comment / speculate on what may have caused this

ls -al ape.conf
chmod 666 ape.conf should be enough and do it.
