I share some of the concerns mentioned on this thread. As it is, the project is very helpful and usable. The fact that the original developers aren't actively mantaining it doesn't mean is broken or that is does not work. I do understand that problems and bugs might arise but as a community we could sort it out. An open source software should never die unless it becomes irrelevant or obsolete, and the APE project is very relevant to todays web.
Plus the documentation is not really broken the wiki is. Although we should definitely convert the API to Markdown and save it in the github wiki. From what I see the only thing missing is a Getting started guide on setting up the APE server. I myself took the bull by the horns a while back when I found a repo on github of an early draft of the next generation framework for the project. Since then, with the help and ideas of interested members of the group, I've been building an alternative framework and we have made some very good progress in the project. As it is now is probably not what the original developer envisioned, as the API differs in many ways to the APE_JS API but I think is a simpler solution. If someone would like to read more on the initiave here is the repo link https://github.com/ptejada/ApePubSub On Apr 19, 2013 11:58 AM, "David Patte ₯" <[email protected]> wrote: > I should add, that I am actually familiar with *nix environments, > networking, sockets, IP etc, having worked primary on Solaris for over 30 > years, as well as Windows (20 years), but I'm not that familiar with the > idiosyncracies of various linux flavours or linux environments. > > So building and fixing C/C++ is not an issue for me, but I could use some > Ubuntu support from someone in this group. > > > > On 2013-04-19 11:51, David Patte ₯ wrote: > > Hi Christophe > > I share all your concerns, but would like to see this go forward with > docmuntation and updated releases. > > My weak points are that I have not even tried to download APE yet, and my > familiarity with Linux is mediocre.
