Actually, I tried to adapt the es->eo rules for a start at es->ia yesterday; it was quicker to scrap it and start over with the es->en rules, but I got results in a couple of hours. > A word of caution before you plan something about English: > English->Esperanto quality suffers from imperfections in the so-called > "tagger" step (disambiguation of the part-of-speech, for example whether the > word "saw" is a noun or a verb in a given context). > English just can't be tagged very well with the current tools in Apertium (a > bigram tagger), and until now no-one has solved that in Apertium. Now, you see, that's covered, without grinding any specific axes, by saying it's better to work on similar languages. English's syntax is sufficiently unlike anything else (other than Scots) that there are *always* going to be problems with it, no matter what the target language is. You basically have 3 choices: 1) accept that it's MT, and there will always be errors; 2) do something to reduce the number of errors; or 3) whine about it. Expect that nobody will pay too much attention if you choose 3. Spanish-Interlingua would make a good beginner's project - I've only done 1 verb rule; I don't mind doing the others that have occurred to me, so I'll leave finding dictionary entries to you, Ian. It shouldn't be difficult. -- <Leftmost> jimregan, that's because deep inside you, you are evil. <Leftmost> Also not-so-deep inside you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ Apertium-stuff mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/apertium-stuff
