OK, I repeat:
"If we can't host pairs on it, why do we have it at all?"
I see there is also only 10GB disk.

I have already two Tomcat Java web servers (yes, two seperate Java JVMs) and
5 Plone domains running on my virtual 40 GB disk and 1GB RAM for 13
euro/months server (http://javabog.dk, http://javabog.dk:8080,
http://dejo.dk, http://sea.saluton.dk/, http://kef.saluton.dk/, plus some
others) and its still running great.

Why dont you use for example:
http://www.hetzner.de/hosting/produkte_vserver/vq19 its less than half the
price of Bytemark (http://www.bytemark.co.uk/hosting/virtual_machines) and
the VM and net is running really great. No lags at all.

I can give some of you a login to my machine so you can try out if the pairs
can be hosted there, if you want to.
