First, I think you're confusing Google Code-In with Google Summer of Code. Google Code-In is a competition for high school students to complete a series of small tasks; 3 tasks are worth $100, to a maximum payment of $500. The competition mostly happens during school time, so the students are expected to perform them at the same time as attending school and doing homework, etc. Second, if you can't estimate how long it will take, you can't mentor it, so you first ought to ask if anyone is interested in mentoring it.
