Hello all,

I just realised (well, Xavi reminded me -- thanks Xavi!) that we haven't
sent out an email telling you all introducing our newly accepted GSOC
students for this year. So here it goes:

First, language pairs:

* Jonas will be working on Norwegian to Danish. He's planning to focus
on Bokmål to Danish, but the pair will be set up to allow for future
developments from Danish to Bokmål and also to and from Nynorsk.

* Akin will be working on Uzbek to Turkish.

* Kirill will be working on Ukrainian to Russian

* Jordi will be working on Chinese to Spanish and also investigating how
to best segment Chinese input into words using either tools in
  Apertium or Apertium-compatible tools.

* Kantoro will be working on Kazakh to Kyrgyz.

* Nikant will be working on Hindi to English.

Now for the non-language pairs:

* Dávid will be working on finite-state disambiguation. This project is
basically taking Constraint Grammar rules, turning them into
finite-state transducers and applying them to an Apertium-formatted
  input stream.

* Gang Chen will be working on the sliding window part-of-speech tagger,
this is a part-of-speech tagger that can be trained in an unsupervised
manner and can be represented as a finite-state transducer.

* Óscar will be working on an interface for the manual
  annotating/tagging of corpora.

* Filip will be working on improvements and bug fixes to the lexical
  selection module and training scripts.

* Boldizsár will be working on a visual interface for transfer rules.

Congratulations to all the accepted students, and hope you have a very
successful --- and very fun --- summer!

Fran
