Dear Apertium mailing list, My name is Ingibjorg Elsa Bjornsdottir, and I am a new PhD student at the University of Iceland. My PhD assignment concerns developing Apertium further with regard to Icelandic. I am interested in the language pairs Icelandic - English; English - Icelandic; Icelandic-Russian;Russian - Icelandic, and I would not mind working on other combinations as well especially Icelandic - Swedish or Icelandic - German.
My e-mail at the university of Iceland is [email protected]. I also have a very very small translation company called Brandugla slf. (Short eared owl) which is really just me, and a platform for my work as a translator. The company is still in existence, but I am running it at low speed, as I am now mainly studying. I have a very colorful educational background. I hold a B.A. degree in Russian and History, a B.Sc. degree in geology, a M.Sc. with distinction degree in Environmental Chemistry and measurements, a M.A. degree in Translation Studies and now I am jumping into my PhD studies with Apertium. My languages are: Icelandic mother tongue, Swedish absolutley fluent (lived in Sweden for 3 years, Jag älskar Göteborg, jajamensan). Russian fluent with some errors (the Russian verbs can be excruciatingly difficult for foreign students). Norwegian and Danish , almost fluent (translated a 400 page book on Global Warming from Norwegian). German, understand and read German books Old Church Slavonic, have read Slovo o Polku Igorevy and Codex Zographensis written in Staroslavjanskíj jazyk. Limited knowledge but living interest in all other languages Finally some rusty knowledge of ancient Greek, also a beautiful language. And I almost forgot, I was born in Edinburgh Scotland, and I know English quite well, even though I do not hold a formal degree in English. And yes, I have mild Aspergers syndrome, which basically means that I am very interested in languages and computers. My special interests are languages and computers. My SourgeForge credentials are: Username: ingibjorgelsa Name: Ingibjorg Elsa Bjornsdottir Email:[email protected] I live in small town in southern Iceland, am married to Valgeir, a biologist, and we have one four year old son, Siggi.
