Hi Apertiumers,
You might have already heard something about it, but it has not been
presented properly yet...
So here is Mitzuli, a new Apertium app for Android! Unlike the official
Apertium app, which is mainly a technical demo aimed at developers, Mitzuli
has been designed with end users in mind. It brings new features like OCR
(camera input) and TTS (voice output), and comes in a simple and intuitive
Holo user interface. You can find more about it the promotional website
that I have created in http://www.mitzuli.com, and the source code can be
found at https://github.com/artetxem/mitzuli.
Mitzuli has been developed by me as a personal project, and I think that it
is mature enough to be considered something like a beta. However, there is
still some work to do prior to release (basically, testing, testing and
more testing!), and I need your help for that. Here is what you can do:
I WANT TO TEST THE APP
Great! Simply follow these simple steps:
1. Join this[1 <https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/mitzuli>] Google
group using the same Gmail account that you use in your Android device. No
spam will be sent to you, this is just something required by Google to
limit the testing to a restricted group of users.
2. Follow this[2 <https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.mitzuli>]
link and confirm that you would like to become a tester.
3. Install the app. You can click "Install" in the browser itself even
if you are navigating from desktop, and the app will be magically installed
in your Android device.
If you find any issue during the testing, please let me know by sending me
an email or opening an issue at
GitHub[3<https://github.com/artetxem/mitzuli/issues>
].
I WANT TO LOCALIZE THE APP TO MY LANGUAGE
Currently, Mitzuli is only available in English, Spanish and Basque.
Considering that it is a translator app, it would be great to offer it in
at least all the languages that it supports, wouldn't it? Well, this can be
possible with your help!
Localizing Mitzuli to your language should take less than 10 minutes, and
it is as easy as translating
these[4<https://github.com/artetxem/mitzuli/blob/master/app/src/main/res/values/strings.xml>]
strings. As an example, have a look at how this was done for
Spanish[5<https://github.com/artetxem/mitzuli/blob/master/app/src/main/res/values-es/strings.xml>]
and
Basque[6<https://github.com/artetxem/mitzuli/blob/master/app/src/main/res/values-eu/strings.xml>].
If you translate Mitzuli to your language, find any mistake in the current
localizations, or have any doubt regarding how to do all this, please let
me know.
I WANT TO HELP WITH SOMETHING ELSE
Would you like to contribute to the code? Could you improve the promotional
text under Google Play or the website? Do you want to design a super cool
icon for Mitzuli? If you find any way in which you would like to help this
project, please tell me about it!
For any problem, doubt or suggestion, don't hesitate to contact me. Thank
you Apertium and this community for making something like this possible!
Mikel
