Sure, reinstalling VirtualBox shouldn't harm anything. Un/Re/Installing
VirtualBox itself doesn't touch the virtual machine images.

It is very difficult to do any harm, since all of Apertium is in version
control. Any unintended change can trivially be rolled back. But as long as
you don't "svn commit", then nothing you do will be seen by anyone else.
