I do not really work with Apertium, so I do not have real experience with the system, so please bear with me. I subscribe to this group, however, because I have some interest in machine translation.
Now a colleague of mine requests whether it would be possible to use Apertium for adapting texts from Brazilian Portuguese to Iberian (European) Portuguese. These two languages are closely related and are a good candidate for an Apertium engine. However, apparently there is not a preconfigured machine for that purpose (although there is an option for translating Spanish into either Brazilian Portuguese or European Portuguese). The question is: can anyone offer this colleague of mine some guidance into creating such an engine, or does it exist somewhere already? Any help would be most welcome.
