Welcome here.

For the commit access, it may be given by an Apertium administrator.

I am one of the very few native French speaker of Apertium project.
But for working on language pairs, I do it only during a little part
of my free time.

Presently, I work on fra-por language pair witch is in staging state
since years and on Esperanto to French translation direction.

An English - French pair would be the third language pair I would work
on, but certainly not before at least releasing fra-por pair.

Then, my first work for this kind of pair, if nobody had done a good
enough work before, would be to work on wordlists to prepare a large
bilingual dictionary.

Anyway, I am not sure to start it in 2017.

I don't know anything about initial developers of en-fr and fra-eng
pairs.

The information about it is on this wiki page :
http://wiki.apertium.org/wiki/Language_and_pair_maintainer
but it is documented for very few language pairs, and except for general
updates similar on any pairs done by the main Apertium contributors,
these pairs were not updated since years.

If I watch the last change not done by the general contributors to the
project, I find for these pairs reikazez and virpu (never head of them).

So, if they don't wake up, feel free to work on these pairs.

I am quite never on IRC, it is easier to contact me by email on even by
phone during French evening.
