Interesting Items 3/09 - by Alex Gimarc
Monday, Mar 9, 2009 Interesting Items 3/09 - Howdy all, a few Interesting Items for your information. Enjoy - In this issue: 1. Letter 2. Satellites 3. Dust 4. Cramer 5. Teleprompter 6. Murrelet 7. Polar Bear 1. Letter. President Teleprompter (Obama) wrote a secret letter to the Russian president proposing to trade the anti-missile defense system being deployed in Poland and Eastern Europe for Russian help with Iran . This is an example of the worst sort of Carter-esque mealy-mouthed, weak kneed foreign policy that we have seen in nearly a generation. It trades military support for our friends and allies for a “trust me” from a hostile government that is expected to intervene and deal with another slightly more hostile government bent on our destruction. Not only have the Russians been providing primary expertise to the Iranians for construction of their “power” reactor, but they are supplying them with the most advanced Russian surface to air missile defense systems possible. Help from Russia? Fat chance. The story was initially reported Tuesday. The Russian president acknowledged Tuesday that he would be willing to discuss missile defense with Obama, but without the little, troubling details of having to do anything with Iran . Hot Air, Tues. 2. Satellites. The Norks (North Koreans), who have been helping Iran build and launch ICBMs, announced last week that they were going to be launching a satellite and threatened anyone that would shoot that satellite down with immediate and crushing punishment. Yeah, right. But the story does tend to highlight a fun thought: Perhaps the reason that Iran ’s satellite stopped working a week after launch was not due to incompetence by its builders. I have come across a few people that have suggested that the USAF High Energy Laser testbed, capable of about 300mW, was recently “tested” on the Iranian satellite, silencing it. Based on the pre-launch belligerence of the Norks, it does appear that they believe the same thing. And as long as they have something to worry about, that is a very good thing indeed. The more they worry, the better I sleep. 3. Dust. The Obama administration’s EPA, unleashed from responsible rule and regulation making by the change in command, is embarking on its fascist goal of tying us and our property up in a web of thousands of little, niggling, irritating rules and regulations. As a reminder, fascism is an economic system by which ownership of property still remains in private hands, but the use of that property has been removed by a maze of rules, regulations, taxes and other criteria. Essentially, you are still a property owner, but you can only do with it what the government tells you that you can do with it. Now step back to what the EPA is planning on doing. They propose to apply the 2006 standards for coarse particulate matter to rural areas – essentially regulating farming combines, ranchers moving their herds of animals, and even vehicles rattling down dirt roads. Anything that can raise a cloud of dust will now come into the cross hairs of the EPA regulators. Given the pro-taxation inclinations of this new administration, I expect the expansion of these regulations outside urban areas will be used as a vehicle to levy taxes on farmers, ranchers, and anyone else who lives in rural America that they can think of. And why not, after all, President Teleprompter didn’t get a lot of votes from rural America . 4. Cramer. Jim Cramer of CNBC and The Street.com went nuclear on Obama as the greatest destroyer of wealth in history last week. Cramer is a hard core leftist; who has a show on CNBC called Mad Money. He has also written a couple books on investing. Cramer was highly critical of President Bush and Treasury Secretary Paulson last year during the initial housing and financial crash. He used that criticism as a vehicle for vociferous support for Hope and Change. Now that Hope and Change is now infesting the Executive branch, and the stock market crash continues, Cramer has changed his mind, going after Obama publicly. True to form, the remarkably thin skinned WH has fired back. Don’t think this is going anywhere, but it does start illustrating Obama’s growing problems among his large financial contributors. Note that it is not only the investor class, the majority of Americans out there in flyover country with 401Ks, 457s, IRAs, and other investments that have lost half of their life savings, but it is also the big boys on the coasts – the large dollar, almost exclusively left leaning wall street and banking crowd that have also lost big over the last six months. I don’t think they will have nearly as much money to donate to Hope and Change in 2010 or 2012. 5. Teleprompter. Obama has a new name that falls out of his almost universal use of teleprompters when making informal statements – President Teleprompter. Apparently he has a difficult time speaking extemporaneously without help or assistance. Kind of makes you wonder who is pulling the strings – Axelrod or Emanuel? Either way, this is a good way for him to turn himself into a laughing stock. Even the NYT, no friend of the political right, has started commenting about him and his teleprompters. 6. Murrelet. The Juneau Empire reported Friday that the Center for Biological Diversity filed a petition with the Palin administration to protect the Kittlitz’s murrelet, a bird that lives on the outflow channels between glaciers and the ocean, as an endangered species. The reason, as usual, man made global warming is destroying the habitat for the birds. Now this is an interesting claim, as it would occur to me that if the glaciers were melting, and opening up more land between the front of the glacier and the oceans, there would be more open area, more habitat available for the birds to do whatever they do than less. If the glaciers are advancing, and emptying into the ocean directly, like they do during ice ages, there is theoretically no habitat available for the bird – which is an interesting thought. Given that we just ended an extended ice age up here in Alaska within the last 5-6,000 years, has this species instantly evolved to take advantage of the new conditions? If not, where did they come from and why? If they were already around and migrated north to follow the melting glaciers, why can’t they continue to migrate north to follow melting glaciers in a supposedly warming world? And when it gets cold again, can’t they simply migrate south to follow the glaciers out to sea? As usual, the greens are making it up as they go, using their peculiar notion of a static world to destroy lives, seize property, and destroy wealth and prosperity in everything that they touch. 7. Polar Bear. The US Senate via a 52-42 vote Friday overturned a Bush administration restriction against using the “endangered” listing of polar bears as a vehicle to regulate anything outside of its normal habitat. Pretty arcane language, right? The limitation meant that the greens could not use the listing of the polar bear on the Alaskan North Slope as an excuse to obstruct, delay and eliminate any other development anywhere else in the US . Remember that the listing was based on the fiction that man made global warming, driven by human-produced carbon dioxide was destroying the sea ice on the Arctic ocean, eliminating hunting habitat for the polar bear. We know today that the loss of ice was an artifact due to a failing sensor on the weather satellite that measured ice coverage at the poles, yet there is no move to reverse the listing. This move by the fascist democrat majority in the senate will be used by the greens as a vehicle to impose a carbon-neutral regime on the US for decades to come, at least until the political class stands up to them. Hewitt, Sat. More later - - AG "If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams, speech at the Philadelphia State House, August 1, 1776.
