This is because you are downloading shared from the web, instad of using the
latest version (from trunk).
You must build shared first (from trunk), and then the API.
Is the trunk SVN URL in the
http://directory.apache.org/community%26resources/sources.html page ??
for the LDAP API i see only this as the URL... which URL should i use
to get the shared trunk.. ??

API http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/directory/clients/ldap/trunk/
get everything from
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/directory/apacheds/trunk-with-dependencies
and build everything from there (including the server).
It will take a while, but it's safe.
