Dear Dilip, Thank you for your thoughtful observations and for your engagement in the APNIC community. Your concerns regarding election diversity, term limits, and the influence of endorsements are important, and I appreciate the opportunity to clarify these points.
Diversity and Term Limits The APNIC EC recognizes the importance of fostering diversity and innovation in its governance. To address concerns about long tenures and encourage fresh perspectives, the EC has directed the APNIC Secretariat to develop proposed bylaw changes. These changes will cover term limits and EC duration, ensuring a more structured and community-driven approach to leadership renewal. Any such changes will follow APNIC’s established policy development process, including member voting, to ensure transparency and fairness. Election Process and Vote Distribution The APNIC EC election is conducted through an open and democratic process, where all eligible APNIC members can vote. The distribution of votes reflects the will of the community, and while experienced candidates may have broader recognition, new candidates are always encouraged to participate and build their engagement within the community. The EC remains committed to ensuring a fair and inclusive election process that enables new voices to emerge. Independence of the EC and NRS Endorsements The APNIC EC operates independently and is not affiliated with the NRO or any external entity. Endorsements from external groups, such as the NRS, are a common part of democratic elections and do not imply any formal control or influence over the EC. Candidates are elected based on votes cast by APNIC members, and their mandate is to serve the best interests of the APNIC community as a whole. We appreciate your concerns and your continued engagement in the APNIC community. If you have any further questions or suggestions, we welcome your input as we work towards a more inclusive and effective governance structure.
