I believe that this is taken care of in the recent update. If you tap on the tag icon on the bottom of the screen, the list of tags you have created will show up. If you tap on one of the tags and then tap the Done button you will return to the main screen showing only items with the tag you have selected. To create more tags, tap on the tag icon and then tap on the entry area and type in the name of the tag you want to create and click the Done button.
