Is this strictly true? As far as I'm aware if you're using subtasks in Todo then syncing to RTM or Toodledo free will not give you a complete backup of your tasks and information will be lost when you restore data from those services.
fwiw, I've suffered no data loss when upgrading to 3.0, including a factory reset and restore of my phone and several jailbreaks.
