If you synced your iPhone with iTunes, then the version of ToDo that
you have installed is the version in iTunes (unless you used iTunes to
upgrade the app to the latest version). Because you have an older
model that is no longer being supported with updates, you will need to
be VERY careful about updating any applications and checking out their
OS requirements before doing so.

I would also be backing up the "Mobile Applications" folder within
your iTunes folder on your hard drive. This contains all of the
applications you purchased and can even be used to restore them to
iTunes if you had to reinstall due to a hard drive failure, etc.

Your best bet to be able to stay current though, would be to get a new
iPhone. iOS 5 will be out shortly and has a tremendous amount of
worthy features, including free access to iCloud, the successor to
MobileMe. Even an iPhone 3GS for $49 will get you there.

Hope this helps.
