I just bought a few cosmic crisp at Trader Joe's. The clerk exclaimed about how
terrific they are. I haven't taken a bite, yet. I was pleasantly surprised to
see at least eight apple cultivars in the shelves, though.

My apple discovery this year is the crimson crisp. The flavor is a little
"flatter" than some more aromatic apples, but it's a tart, sweet, crunchy apple
with a pleasant flavor -- and, it holds up well when cooked, making an
excellent apple pie. Next year I'll buy more and mix them with something
aromatic in the pies.
