I bought a couple of Cosmic Crisp at TJ's too. My wife and I thought they were
good, with a texture like Honeycrisp, but not as flavorful. But the flavor of
Honeycrisp is variable depending on growing region, market chain, etc. We are
moving in a few weeks to NE OR, just south of Walla Walla. I'm looking for
locally grown Cosmic Crisp next year for the real test.

I think the price TJ's is selling them at will have to come down if they want
to keep selling them.

Subject: Re: [apple-crop-2] Varieties

I just bought a few cosmic crisp at Trader Joe's. The clerk exclaimed about how
terrific they are. I haven't taken a bite, yet. I was pleasantly surprised to
see at least eight apple cultivars in the shelves, though.

My apple discovery this year is the crimson crisp. The flavor is a little
"flatter" than some more aromatic apples, but it's a tart, sweet, crunchy apple
with a pleasant flavor -- and, it holds up well when cooked, making an
excellent apple pie. Next year I'll buy more and mix them with something
aromatic in the pies.
