This has all been a vibrant discussion but I wish everyone can
realize there is space for everyone's opinion and customers for us all.
Lord knows, - we are all producing food and wonderful, healthful
products for our local customers no matter how we grow them.
I revel every morning watching the honey bees and bumblebees in the
pumpkins. Surely we would not harm them and spray insecticides at
this time. Yes, we use pesticides but with very great care.
I am amazed at human nature, - my committed employees, even my
youngest teenagers who understand the sense of urgency and
willingness to work hard to make the farm successful. The second in
command managers will come along with time and ideas to increase
sales and finish a job well. All of this can be done when everyone is
paid fairly and motivated by a vision for success. Almost every time
this recipe is followed the organization will succeed.
I know many of you have worked many hard and long hours and years to
build you businesses here around New Jersey and beyond, - all across
the country. After 60 years on a farm and almost 35 years running one
I am always impressed by the long-term staying power and success of
some operators when basic principles and techniques are applied.
And, - think about it. We still have so much freedom to choose and
make our own destiny.
