6GB would be a waste on a IIe. I would guess that the images of *all*
the Apple ][ software would fit on one (two, tops) CD-ROMs. However,
it would be really, really cool to put 6GB drive in the SE, then use
the built-in Appletalk port on an Apple IIgs to read that drive.
Ohhh, and GSOS will read the newer HFS on the Mac. I am unaware of
this type of thing on the IIe.

Is there such a thing as an add-in Appletalk interface on the IIe?

Also, there is no built-in IDE interface on the IIgs nor the SE.

ANYTHING is possible ;-)

Vulcan made hard drives for the II series. What made this really cool
is that they *take out* the power supply, replace it with a smaller,
heavy-duty model power supply, and that leaves enough space for a
standard 3.5" internal hard drive (IDE, SCSI ... you pick). At least,
that's what I've seen in the IIgs machines. The IIe power supply is
slightly shorter than the IIgs power supply (just checked), so there
has to be some option there.

"Dual-port" interfacing ... at the same time? This is not going to
happen. Also, you are much more likely to get a SCSI setup to do
sharing. Never at the same time, though - unless you are into
building your own arbitrator!

C'mon ... 7.0.1 or 7.1, patched - tops. Any more is bloaty. 7.5.5 is
the latest MacOS available for free (as a free update from 7.5.3, also
free - see the FAQ).

Vulcan made an IDE card for the IIgs. This was _IDE_, and not _EIDE_.
This means (IIRC), 512MB, tops - and only one hard drive.

(Subliminal Man ... "SCSI. Go SCSI. Up to six devices at once, daisy-chained!")

How much does the SHH controller cost?

The major problem running between the file systems is file name
standards. HFS is far more forgiving than Prodos (which runs under
GSOS; is required to boot).

I'm really a IIgs man, myself. I happen to have a CMS SCSI card I
can't use in my IIgs, but is recommended for the IIe. I only have
minimal docs, though. If you are interested, please e-mail me
offlist. The controller is SCSI I, as is the external port on the SE.

You may want to look at an Apple SC 20. This is the one which plugs
into (IIRC) an external floppy port (which you can get for the IIe).
Does anyone have experience with this unit on a II-series?
