The problem may have been corrected during manufacturing for later runs of
the original //c, ie - only units with serial numbers up to a certain point
were affected. There were some firmware changes mentioned - $FF didn't
support XON/XOFF, etc. $00 does.

You've got me curious now and I'll check my Apple II service manuals when I
get home.
