I recall that there is something similar for the GS/OS, but it was a bit more permanent, so I never installed it. A quick and simple solution is simply to place a ProDOS formatted disk in the 5.25" drive. The GS/OS will recognize the disk quickly and move on to the next volume, all without the grinding sound.
