I would like to thank everyone who responed RE: my question about changing
the speed of the IIc+ CPU from Fast to Normal. I got it figured out:

For the record-- it seems that the easiest way is to hold down ESC while you
do a warm reboot with OA+CONTROL+RESET. This method seems foolproof.

Interestingly enough, you can *also* do it during a cold startup with the
power switch if you time your pressing of ESC just right. Somebody said it
wouldn't work on a cold start, and I can understand why. The timing has to
be *just* right. You have to hit it milliseconds after flipping the power
switch and hold it just long enough that it gets released before the IIc+
does the drive seek.

Anyway....

I have a couple questions regarding my IIGS, which I've owned for a much
longer time than the IIc+, running System 6.0.1.

A couple things that have always bugged me.

First, I would like to change the icon displayed for hard disks under System
6. The default hard disk icon is like the default icon displayed under
System 6 and 7 on Macintoshes for hard disks but with a couple offset
duplicates fading out behind it. I have seen screenshots of GS/OS that have
different icons for hard disks-- at least ones that look identical to the
Macintosh counterpart.

It has occured to me that maybe my system displays this icon because my hard
disk is split up into partitions, or perhaps it is a System 6.0.1 thing and
the screenshots I saw were from earlier System versions. Either way, I
would like to create my own icons for my hard disk partitions. I have the
icon editor DICED but I have been unable to find the corresponding icons in
any of the files in my "Icons" folder on the boot partition.

Secondly, I have one 5.25" floppy drive connected to the IIgs. The Finder
displays two on the desktop. The only workaround I have found is to set the
"Check 5.25 drives on Finder startup" checkbox in the Finder preferences
dialog. This is unacceptable because for me because: a) it takes up a good
portion of time every time a program is quit on returning to the Finder and
b) it is noisy and annoying.

The following URL reports that changing the System 6.0.1 5.25" driver file's
auxilary filetype to $0101 (from $010E) will solve the problem:
http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/Csa2FDRIVE.html (see question #16). This is
completely inaccurate as setting the auxilary filetype to $0101 results in
System 6.0.1 not displaying any 5.25" drive icons on the desktop *AT ALL*.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
  Nat
