The above seems to imply (to me) that the AppleWorks programmers came up with the idea for the "Round to Even" rule, but it has been in use in the scientific community since before AppleWorks was first published. For example, I have a USEPA publication dating to 1979 which describes this rounding convention. It is unusual to find the "Round to Even" rule implemented in a commercial 'desktop' software package, however. -- Don V.
